Nexus 4 Price Slashed

Following a hefty price cut, the Nexus 4 is now available for just £159 (8GB) and £199 (16GB) on Google’s Play store.
Google confirmed the price cut earlier today via Twitter: ‘we've lowered the price of #Nexus4. Get it for 25% off or more in Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, Korea, US, UK.’
It’s been almost a year since Google launched theNexus 4 and with chatter pointing to an October launch for the Nexus 5, a price cut designed to sell off existing inventory does make sense.
The cut-rate Nexus 4 has yet to sell out in Google’s UK Play store. Both variants of the handset are readily available with shipment dates confirmed as September 10 should you order today.
Google has also added in a breakout box on the Nexus 4 page, detailing the extent of the price cut – ‘the powerful and affordable smartphone from Google — now at an even lower price. Was £239, get it now for £159!’ – in case you somehow missed yesterday’s headlines.
Here’s an extract from our review of the thoroughly excellent Nexus 4 (hit up the link to get the full low-down):
“The phone looks great, certainly giving the illusion it costs a lot more than it does. The screen is a sharp HD panel that rivals the best out there and the UI is bleeding edge Android - even more so now that 4.3 is included.
The Nexus 4 is a spanner in the works for other OEMs. Who could compete with such a strong device at this price point? Not even the mighty Samsung can deliver this kind of value with the considerably less premium Galaxy S3 mini retailing for £60 / 24% more.
Hyperbole aside, when it comes to the current smartphone market, this phone breaks all the rules and has well and truly set a new price-point precedent.”
LG has apparently been tasked with building the Nexus 5, although nothing has yet been confirmed by either Google or the Korean manufacturer. Nevertheless, sources remain convinced that the Nexus 5 will be based on the LG G2 (although it’s likely we’ll see some omissions in order to keep the price down).
Current conjecture points to October as the launch month for both Android Key Lime Pie and the Nexus 5. And what makes this potential time frame all the more interesting is that it is Android’s fifth birthday – and what better what to celebrate Android's fifth year than with the launch of Android 5.0 and the Nexus 5?
Yep, that’d be swell. But – as we said earlier – nothing is yet official. But if you do want to pick up an excellent handset for not much money and drag yourself out of servitude to a network, then it’s worth visiting Google Play right now to pick up a cut-rate Nexus 4. We don't expect stock to last very long at these prices.
